How BetterSchool creates, reviews, updates, and corrects content for homeschooling families.

BetterSchool is committed to providing accurate, helpful, and up-to-date information for homeschooling families. This page describes how we create, review, and maintain our content.

How we create content

Our content is written and reviewed by people with direct experience in homeschooling. Every article, glossary entry, and state guide goes through a multi-step process:

  1. Research — We gather information from official government sources, state education departments, established homeschool organizations, and published academic research.
  2. Writing — Content is drafted with clarity and accuracy as the top priorities. We write for parents who may be new to homeschooling, avoiding jargon when possible and explaining technical terms when needed.
  3. Review — Each piece is reviewed for factual accuracy, completeness, and readability before publication.
  4. Publication — Articles are published with clear attribution and dates so readers know who wrote the content and when it was last updated.

Our sources

We prioritize authoritative, primary sources whenever possible:

  • State homeschool laws — Sourced directly from state statutes, education department websites, and official government publications.
  • Funding and financial information — Drawn from state education agency data, legislative records, and official program documentation.
  • Educational methods and curriculum — Based on published works by method founders, academic research, and established practitioner resources.
  • Statistics and data — Cited from the National Center for Education Statistics, Census Bureau, and peer-reviewed studies when available.

How we keep content current

Homeschool laws and regulations change with every legislative session. We are committed to keeping our content up to date:

  • State law pages are reviewed and updated after each state legislative session, typically on an annual cycle.
  • Comparison pages are reviewed every six months to reflect new developments or changes.
  • Glossary entries are reviewed annually for accuracy and expanded with new examples or related terms.
  • Every content page displays either a publication date or a “Last updated” date so readers can assess freshness.

Corrections

If you find an error in any of our content, please contact us. We take accuracy seriously and will review and correct any confirmed errors promptly. Significant corrections are noted on the affected page.

Independence

Our educational content is editorially independent. We do not accept payment in exchange for coverage or favorable treatment in our guides, glossary entries, or comparison pages. When we link to products or services, we do so because we believe they are genuinely useful to homeschooling families — not because of a commercial relationship.
